Navigating Medicare
What is Medicare?
Medicare Has Four Distinct Parts
Part A: Covers inpatient medical care. This can include hospital stays, skilled nursing treatment, and hospice care.
Part B: Covers outpatient medical care. Medical services, equipment, and products not covered under Part A are typically covered here. This includes x-rays, lab work, surgery, and even wheelchairs or canes as needed.
Part C: Also called Medicare Advantage, this part is an added benefit meant to provide coverage for medical care that doesn’t fall under Parts A or B. This can include prescription drug coverage and even dental coverage. Part C can be considered both Part A and Part B, with added healthcare options.
Part D: Covers prescription drugs, specifically. Whether you are enrolled in Part A, Part B, and/or Part C, this additional coverage is available to you as necessary.
Medicare Supplements: Also called Medigap, Medicare Supplemental Insurance policies can help ensure that additional costs to you don’t arise. This can include coverage for copays, deductibles, and other expenses that may come up after receiving medical care.
